![]() ![]() ![]() Steve Edwards - Lighting ConsultantSteve graduated from South Bank University in 1997 with a HND and successive BSc in Computer-Aided Design. He started his career in the lighting industry as an applications engineer for a major exterior lighting manufacturer in 1999. His main duties involved lighting design of a diverse range of projects from major motorway schemes and urban regeneration projects, through to decorative floodlighting. Another main aspect was the project management of customer orders, supporting the sales team and providing customers with technical assistance. In 2003 Steve re-located to manage a regional design office and distribution centre. His role remained the same in essence, but provided a greater opportunity to support customers directly with individual lighting projects. Another major responsibility was the commercial management of a range of street lighting. In 2007 he achieved the position of Regional Support Manager with an overseeing responsibility of all lighting designs within the territory. Steve has obtained a detailed understanding of LED technology, particularly through the area of decorative lighting, and LED control systems via individual projects that he was particularly involved with. Steve has recently joined Stainton Lighting Design Services in October 2010 as a Lighting Consultant. A key responsibility for Steve is to develop the specialist lighting portfolio on the back of a number of recent successes includingwinning a lighting designa ward for the Queen Alexandra Bridge in Sunderland and, more recently, winning the ILE competition for the relighting of the World Heritage Site of Durham Cathedral and Castle. Anthony Smith - DirectorIEng, MILE Anthony is from an electrical background and started his career in the lighting industry as a lighting design technician working for Cleveland County Council. After 2 years following local government reorganisation he relocated to Hartlepool Borough Council were he was again employed in the street lighting section for 18 months. He then moved to York City Council where he took a more senior role within the street lighting section. His primary responsibility was for the delivery of a maintenance and installation program under the guidance of the lighting engineer. After three years with York, Anthony moved to Durham County Council where he spent 5 years as a lighting engineer with total responsibility for approximately 1/3 of Durham's street lighting stock totalling 28000 units including all aspects of highway lighting within Durham City. Within Durham County Council his duties included the programming, budgetary control and delivery of the routine and non routine maintenance programme and street lighting scheme design on major highways work within his area. Typically this would include feasibility, initial design and costing, detailed lighting and electrical design, production of drawings and contract documentation, site supervision and control of the budget. He was also tasked with the implementation of the Column Risk Management model outlined in ILE Technical Report 22. From Durham's experience of the model a review was commissioned by the CSS and ILE in 2004 and awarded to the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL). Anthony’s work for Durham on the implementation of the current model, led to him sitting on the national working group tasked with assisting TRL in production of a revised Risk Management model and Condition Indicator. As a result of this experience Anthony is currently giving Technical seminars for the ILE on the subject of TR22 Managing a Vital Asset. Anthony is a member of The Institute of Lighting Engineers and is involved in the ILE at regional and national level as 2007/08 Regional chairman and as regional representative on National Council. He is also a member of national Membership and Education Committee. Michael Curtis - DirectorAMILE Mike joined as a partner in 2006. The benefits associated with the arrival of Mike include 30 years of electrical experience. Mike’s career started in the Petrochemical Industry with I.C.I. where his work covered areas ranging from power generation to production process control systems. Following a move to Brighton Mike spent 5 years with the Post Office as an electrical engineer involved in the installation, commissioning and testing of CCTV and alarm systems, followed by a period abroad with a multi national company in Gibraltar. On returning to his native north east Mike joined Cleveland County Council where he was involved with front line service delivery and overseeing compliance with the statutory requirements of the industry. In 1996 Mike continued in the public sector with Middlesbrough Council, with direct responsibility for the maintenance of the street lighting and signing works. In 1998 Mike became the Lighting Engineer for Middlesbrough, which involved scheme evaluation and design, contract preparation, policy and co-ordination, project management, energy procurement and asset management. Mike is registered with the ECS and holds the ILE Lighting Diploma, he is well known in the north east having previously served on the Regional Committee of the ILE. Dave Williams - Principal Lighting Consultant EngineerIEng, MILE, MIET Dave Spent six years undertaking general electrical installation and design work within British Steel before becoming an electrical draughtsman. He then spent the next 30 years in local government, specialising in all aspects of exterior lighting and associated electrical design work he reached the level of senior Lighting Engineer within Cleveland County Council with responsibility for a wide range of work such as the delivery of capital work programmes, writing of contract documentation, floodlighting schemes and lighting management, before its abolition as part of Local Government Reorganisation. For the last 10 years Dave has worked as an Exterior lighting Consultant and Partner within Stainton Lighting Design Services delivering a wide range of specialist exterior lighting and electrical design services to a number of clients from both local government and the private sector. Dave is registered as an Incorporated Engineer and he is a member of both The Institute of Lighting Engineers and the Institution of Engineering and Technology. Allan Billinge - Principal Lighting Consultant EngineerIEng, MILE Allan has an electrical background and thirty two years exterior lighting design experience, including, preparation of contract documents together with producing and managing maintenance contracts. Allan's lighting career commenced in Newcastle Upon Tyne and continued in Teesside where he became Lighting Engineer for Cleveland County Council. During his this period he represented the Counties of Cleveland, Durham, Northumberland and Cumbria on the County Surveyors Society's Specialist Lighting Group dealing with lighting matters of national importance in consultation with Central Government, Regional Electricity Authorities and the Lighting Manufacturing Industry. He was a member of a B.S.I. Committee producing B.S. 7654 on the manufacture of fused 'cut outs' used in Public Lighting. He is an active member of the Institution of Lighting Engineers, being past regional Chairman as well as serving on a number of technical panels. Allan is registered as an Incorporated Engineer and he is a member of The Institute of Lighting Engineers. Andrew Wells - Lighting EngineerEng Tech, AMILE Andrew is the newest member of the team having joined in August 2007. Andrew started his career as an electrical apprentice in the petrochemical industry at ICI Wilton were he gained his HNC in Electrical Engineering. Having left ICI he worked for two years in the electrical contracting industry working for several established companies such as Redpath Engineering Services,James Scott,Lorne Stewart and BKE. Andrew joined David Webster Ltd in 1993 as a maintenance electrician at the Middlesbrough Branch.In his 13 years with David Webster he held numerous posts such as Civils Supervisor,Contracts Supervisor and Contracts Manager. In August 2006 Andrew joined Hambleton District Council as Public Lighting Assistant. He was responsible for managing the councils footway and car park lighting. Supervising the maintenance contract and supervision of all lighting contractors, project management, energy procurement and asset management.
